World Menopause Day 18 October 2025: History & Significance!

The holiday in the middle of World Menopause Month is World Menopause Day. It is a day that seeks to increase public awareness of menopause and the options available to improve the well-being and quality of life of post-menopausal women.

Although menopause is a part of the natural cycle, many women are not prepare for the physical, mental, and emotional changes that can occur with this transition. Decrease estrogen and progesterone levels can cause women to have hot flashes, weight gain, and vaginal dryness.

History of World Menopause Day

Develop by the International Menopause Society (IMS) in 2009. It was create to raise public awareness about menopause. They create this holiday to help menopausal women.

Important facts about menopause

The average age of onset of menopause is 51.

Most women stop menstruating between the ages of 45 and 55.

Perimenopause is the beginning of a woman’s transition to menopause.

Menopause affects bone health, so women should eat plenty of calcium, take vitamin D supplements and avoid smoking.

Menopause can affect a woman’s heart health as the arteries become less flexible.

Celebrating World Menopause Day

Each year, IMS releases a theme that summarizes a specific area of menopause that is being focuse on. For example. In 2018, the theme was “Sexual Wellness After Menopause” and in 2019, it was “Testosterone for Women in Midlife.” In 2021, the holiday’s theme was “Bone Health.”
