Ramadan is an ideal month for followers of Islam. During this month, Muslims practice introspection, prayer and fasting to Allah. It is observe by Muslims all over the world. In this month they finish their meal at 4.52 in the morning and take food again at 6.11 in the evening or at night without eating the whole day.
History of Ramadan
This Quran was reveale to our Prophet Muhammad. This revelation took place in the Cave of Hera on Mount Nur in Mecca in AD. This day is known as Laylatul Qadr to Muslims. Its English meaning is Night of Decree or Night of Power. It was establish in 610 AD. Observance of Ramadan is obligatory for Muslims as state in Surah 2, Verse 185 of the Quran.
Traditions and practices of Ramadan
During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk every day. During this month Muslims are require to abstain from eating or drinking, smoking or sexual activity during the day. At this time they refrain from using impure thoughts or impure words. They must refrain from behavior that is consider unethical.
Ramadan is only a way for Muslims to purify their souls from impurity. Compassion is shown to the poor and hungry in this month. Shall fast during this time except for those who have not reach puberty or are seriously ill.
Children, pregnant women, sick people should refrain from fasting. Moreover, if a person fails to fast, he can fast any time of the following month to make up for the previous fasting days. If that is not possible then give food to the poor.

Zakat is given as alms to the poor and those who earn less. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. This is a particularly important month. Muslims give more and more frequently to the poor and needy during this month.
This month of Ramadan ends with a big celebration. This celebration is known as the breaking of fast or Eid ul-Fitr. This celebration is observe on the last day of the month of Ramadan. Muslims offer special prayers on this special day. Gifts are exchange and food is share with friends and family. In the United States, the President of the United States has hosted an Eid al-Fitr dinner since 1996.
