AI PCs will have Neural Processing Unit (NPU) chips, which help in data processing.

Many believe that the first AI PC will be release before the next major update release for Windows. and will be powere by later versions of Windows. They think this will be Windows 12. Because Microsoft hasn’t confirm it or its name yet.

Windows 12 may not be release in this form. Instead, Microsoft Windows 11 could be a major update. This will turn it into Windows 12.

We assume the Windows 11 feature update will focus on AI. Microsoft plans to make a large number of non-AI improvements in the next release.

According to Windows Central Features, the next Windows 11 feature update may contain 7-zip. Also the ability to create tar archives, a new energy saver mode or the long-awaited suggestion feature for snap layouts.

This year’s Windows 11 Release

Microsoft Windows AI PCs will require at least 16 GB of RAM. At least one AI PC, Dell’s XPS 13, will have an 8GB RAM configuration option.

Certain AI functionality on these PCs, perhaps those related to local processing, may require 16 GB of RAM.

It’s a lot of mess, but larger language models obviously work better with NPUs and lots of RAM.

Most PCs that run Windows 11 right now may not benefit from some of the AI features that Microsoft may introduce in the 2024 update for the operating system.

Will Microsoft “only” release a Windows 11 update in 2024? It is certainly a possibility. This update will pour more AI into Windows, and some of these features may require an NPU and 16 GB of RAM. Another possibility is that 16 GB is the recommendation, but not the minimum requirement for AI functionality.

Closing words
